Gavin Noakes served nine years at prisons across the North and the Midlands, including Strangeways. In the six months before his April 2018 release, he was trusted to work at UDP, a Salford based civil engineering company, on day release.
It was this chance that changed the family fortunes.
Gavin made such a good impression on UDP they gave him a full-time job when he got out. The first ex-con to be taken on by them, he’s now a yard manager for the firm, which employs 150 people and had a turnover of £12.5m last year.
